Complaint Team

The team has three main functions:

1. To handle the transition of complaints received by the Prisoner Ombudsman's office. The team acknowledges the complaint and will liaise with the NIPS to gather appropriate information to assist with deciding whether it is eligible and notifies the complainant. Ineligible complaints are closed and eligible complaints are passed on to investigators.

2. To investigate all deaths in Prison Service Custody.

3. To take follow up action to ensure a timely response to those complaints where recommendations have been made and so that any action required to implement the recommendation is taken.

4. To provide secretariat services for the Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB) and the Council of Independent Monitoring Boards (NI) (CIMB).
